The Hungry Traveler in Barcelona by Elisabeth

April 6, 2022

As a student studying abroad in the amazing city of Barcelona, the food was something I was most excited for. Here are some of my favorite places that I have been so far!

The Chill Bar

My first night in Barcelona my friends and I found The Chill Bar right around the corner from the Sagrada Familia. We had ordered some tapas to share. If you like nachos, I would definitely recommend the chicken nachos. My all time favorite tapa is patatas bravas and The Chill Bar continues to hold the title for my favorite patatas! The Sangria was also amazing, and make sure to try the Porn Star Martini.

Bo de B

Calling all Sandwich lovers! I cannot recommend this place enough. I am always in the mood for a good sandwich, and Bo de B has to be my favorite build your own sandwich place. Everything is fresh and it is all incredible. The sandwiches are nearly a foot long, piled high with your choice of protein, different veggies and your sauce(s) of choice. Load up your 5 euro sandwich with every topping (which is what I did) and take it to go eat by the water. Don’t forget to bring your cash, because they are cash only!

Sensi Tapas

Grab a big group of friends and make a reservation at Sensi Tapas! My favorite thing about this restaurant was that for larger groups, you can tell your waiter the price per person you’d like to pay and they’ll create a menu specific to your group's liking. This way, you can all try tons of different tapas. Some must haves are the truffle ravioli, the peppers and of course the patatas bravas. The cava sangria should also be on your list.

Santoria Panatieri

I was never a burrata lover until coming here to Barcelona. This place by far has the best burrata. Covered with truffle and over tomato paste, this secret menu item is the best so make sure you ask for it! My friends and I shared the burrata and focaccia bread.

Pastisseria La Colmena

If you have never had a xuixo, you must go here! Located right at the Jaume I metro stop in the Gothic Quarter makes it super easy to visit one of the oldest pastry shops in Barcelona. A xuixo is a deep-fried, sugar coated cylindrical pastry filled with crema catalana and it is absolutely delicious!

El Desvan Bakery

Saving the best for last and while sticking to the sweet stuff! Another must go is El Desvan Bakery by Lucia. They have the best stuffed cookies and are always offering new flavors. The lotus cookie was my favorite (it’s best if you microwave it for a few seconds when you get home!) Cheesecake on a stick is another thing this bakery is famous for. Everything there is incredible and the owner is awesome too! These cookies are so good I waited in line for 2 ½ hours just to get some at the grand opening of their new location in El Born! So worth it!
